LUCIA BLUEHEART

For a while now, LUCIA has been staking their claim at the forefront of the Scottish indie-rock scene, which is brimming with talent, but few are more notable than this explosive Glaswegian band. Their newest single ‘Blueheart’ is our go-to anti-Valentine’s Day anthem as it gets down to the reality of toxic relationships. Front woman Lucia Fairfull explains that the video "is expressing what happens when you feel trapped in a toxic bubble. People can easily hide how they feel on the outside, whilst their true feelings eat them up on the inside". The video is a vision of red, white and green, with Fairfull playing out her silent actions as a way to either distract from or display those inward emotions. Aside from the cinematic visuals, the track itself is a fearsome revolt against heartbreakers. There’s excellent lines like, 'I’m sorry, but you can’t have it all, / I know you felt in control, / But this isn’t your call,' which anyone dealing with the minefield of dating should save to their phone to have an appropriate put-down for time wasters. From these sage and measured verses, LUCIA (which is Fairfull alongside Michael Roddy, Ross ImaIach and Ronan Park) launches into throttling choruses; heavy on the guitar and powerful on the percussion. Alongside tracks like ‘Melted Ice Cream’ and ‘Summertime’, LUCIA cement their place further as an essential British band you need to know.
